Skins Golf are a new brand looking to modernise and inject some style into the golf apparel market. The performance hoodie is one of their first products to make this stamp. So how does it perform?

Skins Golf Performance Hoodie review: NCG Summary

Skins Golf Performance Hoodie
4.5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The Performance Hoodie is one of the nicest clothing pieces I’ve worn in a long time, on or off the course. It blends the ‘smart’ requirements of golf apparel with the ‘casual’ requirements a modern golfer is looking for brilliantly and is really easy to play in.

PROS

  • Light and stretchy
  • Brilliant fit
  • Looks fantastic on and off the course

CONS

  • Not the warmest hoodie, must be worn with additional layers if it’s chilly

First Impressions

The Skins Golf Performance Hoodie is light out of its packaging and has a stretchy yet quality feel. It straight away gives you the feeling you will be able to move freely in it.

I really like the subtle print on the sleeve and the quiet logo on the pocket, which Skins Golf are calling a kangaroo pouch. Love it. I had a hard time choosing a colour as the options available are all bold colours and look great.

On Course Testing

I am 5ft 10, 72kg with quite broad shoulders, which makes selecting a top size difficult. I often have the choice between a good fit around the shoulders and baggy at the waist, or a good fit around the waist but too narrow in the shoulders.

The Skins Golf Performance Hoodie fits me perfectly. Finally! A fit designed for someone with an ‘athletic’ shape.

Another great point is the narrow sleeves. There’s nothing worse than sleeves that are baggy and need messing with every time you grip the club. Skins Golf have nailed this.

I have had absolutely no issue playing golf in this hoodie. The 4-way stretch materials mean it is comfortable and moves and stretches when I do. Unrestricted movement and versatility are key points when choosing golf wear that you actually want to perform in, and the Performance Hoodie provides that with abundance.

hood

The Performance Hoodie is made from 94% polyester and 6% spandex, which gives it moisture-wicking capabilities making it a brilliant option for spring and summer. I have only played in it during winter and although it is not the warmest hoodie, I have found it a brilliant layering piece combined with some kind of windproof/waterproof jacket.

The 19th hole

The Skins Golf Performance Hoodie is an unrivalled on and off-course piece. I’ve worn this loads for golf, and then in the bar after I’ve even had some compliments on it in the clubhouse. Not only this, I wear this socially and even think it’s smart enough to wear out for dinner, which is not something I’ve ever done with a golf garment before.

Skins Golf

The soft fabric provides an unmatched fit and immense performance, and I highly recommend people get out and buy one.

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
