It’s the show every golf fan has been waiting for, and the excitement level has just reached a whole new level after Netflix released a teaser trailer for the upcoming PGA Tour docuseries.
Dropping 15 February – and produced by the creators of the highly popular Formula 1: Drive to Survive series which helped revolutionise F1 – the show will provide a candid and fascinating behind-the-scenes look into the 2022 PGA Tour season – one which has arguably been the most captivating year in professional golf history. Yep, they sure picked some year to make a documentary.
And while the appetite was already soaking wet with Netflix crews spotted throughout the 2022 season, fan anticipation has now exploded after the streaming service dropped the first official trailer for the upcoming series. Titled Full Swing (nope, we have no idea either), here’s a sneak peak into what to expect…
Per the video, the documentary series will feature the likes of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, and perhaps most surprisingly, Rory McIlroy, who was originally not included as one of the participants when the show was first announced in January 2022.
“If I want the game that I love to be played by future generations,” McIlroy says in the trailer, “the game needs to be pushed forward.”
On top of this, and the angle which has perked everyone’s interest, the series will feature LIV Golf stars Ian Poulter, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Joaquin Niemann, just several players who have since been banned from the PGA Tour after switching to the breakaway series.
“You picked a hell of a year to start following the PGA Tour,” Poulter says in the trailer.
You can say that again.
So what else do we know? Well, the series will cover the entirety of the competitive season, and features stops to the biggest events from the 2022 PGA Tour season. Perhaps most excitingly, this includes all four majors – the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and The Open – whose major bodies all provided Netflix with unprecedented access during the tournaments.
While Netflix have so far been coy on the amount of episodes which have been made, a quick glance at the Formula 1: Drive to Survive counterpart sees it boasted 10 episodes in each season – so we’d expect Full Swing to offer something similar.
The only disappointment is that Tiger Woods won’t be involved, who, alongside Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, and Bryson DeChambeau, opted against signing up. But while this means they won’t get the same behind the scenes access as the before-mentioned stars, this is not to say they won’t be featured in some capacity.
Full Swing debuts February 15 on Netflix UK.
