NCG Equipment Awards 2019: Wedges
After 12 months of testing it’s finally time to reveal the winners of the NCG Equipment Awards for the year. We’ll be revealing our winners across nine categories between now and the new year – so let’s get on with it. Day six sees us spin into the world of wedges.
NCG Equipment Awards: Best wedges 2019
Best for spin: Ping Glide 3.0
These wedges offer what they promise, some serious spin. I actually couldn’t believe how much they span back on my initially wedge shots. I was pitching into a green that sloped away from me and still getting 10 feet of backspin which is something I never usually see.
Best for control: TaylorMade Milled Grind 2.0
Instantly I loved the soft feeling off the club-face it helped me control a variety of different shots around the green. The spin was very consistent with me seeing almost identical amounts of check on all full pitch shots. This is very important so you know how the ball is going to react on the green and can pitch the ball in the right spot allowing for the spin.
Most forgiving: Callaway Mack Daddy Jaws 5
I felt the optimised head progression worked really nicely. Sometimes I can find it hard to commit to a full shot with a gap wedge due to the wedge like styling. The progressive shaping helps you transition from iron to wedge easier and is more forgiving in the longer clubs.
