Can shoes with the Boa fit system benefit your game?

Can the performance of your golf shoes be improved by Boa laces? We tested some to find out

To test out the Boa fit system we put the Ecco Biom Hybrid 3 Boa, Adidas Tour 360 XT Twin Boa and the Adidas Forgefiber Boa shoes through their paces.

All three shoes we tested feature the Boa system on the front of the shoe and at the forefront of the design. The system is small and compact and adds an extra sporty modern look to the styling. With no laces to contend with the Boa provides a really clean sleek look across this range of shoes.

So what’s the technology in the Boa fit system?

First off, what is the Boa fit system?

Boa is an innovative shoe closure system, made up of three integral parts: a micro-adjustable dial, super-strong lightweight laces, and low friction lace guides.

The latest Boa shoes feature the Boa L6 dial combined with extremely strong stainless steel or textile laces.

Simply lift the dial for a quick release of the laces, once you wish to tighten the shoe click the dial down to engage and turn until the shoe fits securely.

The micro-adjustable dial means you can tune in your shoes down to a precise one millimetre per click. This allows for precision and customised fitting improving performance and comfort.

The Boa fit system is lightweight, waterproof and extremely durable.

What’s our verdict on the Boa fit system?

A big selling point about the Boa system for most golfers is how quick it makes changing in and out of your golf shoes. No more fiddling around with laces in the winter when its cold or worrying about your laces getting wet on the car park floor. Simply press the dial down, twist and you’re ready to go.

It is also great mid-round if you find your shoe has loosened slightly, just adjust to your perfect fit again in seconds. I did find that generally the shoe stays snug and at your correct fit for longer than a traditional lace.

The Adidas Forgefiber Boa incorporates the TX4 Boa Fit System that features a soft, textile lace, which goes perfectly with the textile upper. The FormTX lace guides are designed to be softer and more comfortable than the steel alternatives. This worked well as the laces are much more visible in this shoe so you want an aesthetic that matches the rest of the shoe.

Overall I found the shape and structure of both shoes combined with the Boa closure system provided an exceptional fit. This made me feel really stable when hitting shots. Not only did the shoes fit great, I felt they provided more all round support for my foot than a golf shoe with standard laces.

Do you remember laces? They seem so last century now.
