Get the lowdown on Rory’s new TaylorMade putter

I’ve been pretty busy this week putting together our 2018 drivers test for both print and online.

It has been a long process from start to finish and it’s great to be able to bring you the results.

To be honest with you, I’m also relieved it is out of the way.

Hitting drivers on launcher monitors, after a while, is not good for you. It forces you to obsess over lots of data that isn’t really going to help you shoot lower scores.

I’m looking forward to the 2018 season so I can focus on getting my handicap down rather than whether or not I can get a 1.51 smash factor on Trackman.

Rory’s TaylorMade putter

Many people say that if Rory McIlroy putts well, then he wins.

And that was certainly the case at Bay Hill when he romped to victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

His stokes gained for putting was +10 during the tournament. And it was achieved with a brand new TaylorMade TP Collection Black Copper Soto putter which will be available to by next month.

“It was the best putting week of my career,” McIlroy said.

“I changed putter from the Mullen that I had been playing, which was 33 inches to a 34 1/4-inch Soto with a slant neck.

“I just wanted to go with something that I was a little more familiar with, head-shape wise. It has a little more toe-hang to get the toe of the putter releasing a bit more.

“I love the surlyn insert in it—it felt really soft. I holed early on last week, which gave me a lot of confidence, and I just went from there.”

“It’s a very traditional-looking, blade-style putter—something that I’ve used quite a lot in the past, that I’ve been very successful with in the past.

“Obviously, it’s a different neck. It’s not quite the plumber’s neck that I’ve used before, but it’s just something that I went back to and it felt familiar. It felt like reintroducing myself to an old friend.”

Poulter summons the sprit of Medinah

Sticking with flat sticks, Ian Poulter went into the WGC Matchplay looking for something extra on the greens.

And there was only one place to look really as he went back to the Odyssey #7 model which he used to ignite Europe’s miracle comeback in the 2012 Ryder Cup.

But we need to talk about that training aid, Ian.

Bushnell introduce new GPS watch with Bluetooth syncing

We were big fans of the Bushnell iON GPS watch when we tested it a couple of years ago.

And now there’s the upgraded iON 2 which has a reversible strap and Bluetooth technology to sync it with the Bushnell Golf mobile app.

Blacked-out Adidas Boost launched

Adidas have added a special edition colourway to their range of Boost golf shoes.

The Tour 360, Tour 360 Knit (£149.95) and Crossknit 2.0 (£119.95) now all feature black Boost foam cushioning.
