Srixon Z-Star golf ball

Best Srixon Golf Balls 2023

I’ve always been a fan of the Z Star balls, and when I heard that they were getting a major upgrade, I was excited to get my hands on some. I love and need higher spin pretty much with all my shots, so Srixon’s new spin skin coating, which is supposed to dig into your grooves more, definitely has me interested.

This is not the only upgrade the Z-Star has had, however, it also features a new fastlayer core which is soft in the middle and gradually firmer towards the edges, and new 338 speed dimple pattern is supposed to make it less affected by the wind, which would be amazing if true!

Out of the box and onto the green, I love how these balls feel from the putter face and wedge on short chips. They have a similar softer feel to the tour ball I usually play, and I’m able to generate quite a lot of greenside spin and get the ball checking from reasonable lies.

Premium golf ball users should absolutely consider putting this in play as it’s a great all-round performer, especially if you like a soft-feeling ball. Srixon’s new technology is the real deal.

Pros:

  • Feels great around the greens
  • Yellow colour option
  • More durable than other urethane golf balls

Cons:

  • Not the longest with 7 iron and driver

Srixon Z-Star XV golf ball

4.5 star review
Best Srixon Golf Balls 2023

Reviewed by Jack Backhouse

Any time golf equipment can help me hit the ball higher, I am interested. The new Srixon Z Star XV golf ball, which is played by Hideki Matsuyama, Shane Lowry and Cameron Champ, is designed to do just that. More flight, more distance, more spin.

Out of the box and onto the green, these balls have a slightly firmer feel to the Z Star and other tour balls I usually play, but I really like the way the ball reacts from the wedge and putter. You can almost feel the spin skin coating gripping the grooves and then grabbing the turf on the green.

Out of bunkers and bad lies, the ball performed as expected too. Loads of spin out of the bunker and nice touch out of the thick rough. The ball’s outer skin didn’t scuff up quickly either, which was nice; the Z Star XV has a very durable coating.

My shots with the driver with the Srixon Z Star XV were interesting, pretty good and solid ball speed & launch angle, but probably too much backspin for me, which as a result, steals some carry and overall distance. It did feel great off the face of the driver and I liked the dispersion down the fairway I would just need to go play with the ball.

Pros:

  • Great distance
  • Durable outer layer
  • Amazing value tour standard ball

Cons:

  • Isn’t designed really for slow-speed players

Srixon Z Star Diamond Golf Ball

4.5 star review
Best Srixon Golf Balls 2023

We all need more control over the greens, don’t we? The Srixon Z Star Diamond golf ball has the solution for us; more spin. This is the spinniest golf ball that Srizon offer, and if it’s good enough for Brooks Koepka, it’s good enough for me.

Out of the box and onto the green, these balls feel really firm, especially having just tested the standard Z Star ball. It took a bit of getting used to with the putter, but I loved the way you can get the ball dancing on the green with short wedge shots.

The 2023 Srixon Z Star Diamond golf ball has the new spin skin coating, which creates more friction on the club face than before, which increases our control. You really notice this with wedges out of the sand, fairway and rough. It’s worth noting that the balls didn’t scuff up much with all these wedge shots so that’s a huge tick in the durability column.

Pros:

  • Great feel and spin around and into the greens
  • Durable outer layer
  • Amazing value tour standard ball

Cons:

  • Isn’t designed really for slow-speed players

Srixon Soft Feel golf balls

5 star review
Best Srixon Golf Balls 2023

Reviewed by Nicola Slater

Srixon Soft Feel balls have been around as long as I’ve been playing golf and I can’t really give a first impression as looks wise they haven’t really altered from what I can remember. The classic black Srixon logo with a number coloured according to the type of ball is very simple and effective. The Soft Feel is also offered in a yellow, with black writing.

My driver tends to be my favourite club in my bag, give or take the odd round so it seemed fitting to start with it. Teeing it up with the Srixon Soft Feel looked good on the tee.

The feel off the club face was definitely a little softer than my usual Pro V1 x, but the softer feel was welcomed. I felt like they looked quite high off of the face than what I’m used to seeing but carry wise I can’t fault the numbers.

If you’re a low handicapper who requires spin to hold the ball then this probably isn’t best suited for you. But, this ball would work better for those mid to higher handicappers who aren’t looking for vast amount of spin.

Overall, this isn’t the ball for me but for those looking for something a little softer off the face and on the wallet this is a great option.

Pros:

  • Low compression
  • Reasonably priced
  • Soft feel

Cons:

  • May not suit faster swinging players

Srixon Soft Feel Lady golf balls

Inside, the ball supports the same look as the standard Srixon Soft Feel. The only visual difference is the colour change from green to pink in the wording. Srixon offers this ball in a standard white as well as a bright pink option.

Starting with the driver, I really enjoyed how spongey this ball felt off the face of the club. The ball speed was up a little on average from the Srixon Soft Feel that I also tested. I also got one shot over 140mph which is something that doesn’t often happen. The spin was also very good for a driver with this ball and it produced a very nice sound and flight.

Moving onto my 7 iron, looking at the numbers the spin seemed to be quite inconsistent considering that most other things were fairly consistent. The launch, however was very consistent, as was the ball speed and carry which is very important on those approach shots into greens.

In terms of around the green, the Soft Feel Lady was very spongey off of the face and landed very soft. Out of a bunker filled with wet sand, there was plenty of spin generated which was nice. When it came to putting I found it hard to get to the ball to the hole.

Overall, this is a great golf ball and is pitched at a great price and would be ideal for any mid-high handicapper women or men who are looking for a little extra ball speed.

Pros:

  • Low compression
  • Reasonably priced
  • Soft feel

Cons:

  • Not the best for fast swinging players

Best Srixon Golf Balls 2024

Choosing the right golf ball is a vital part of improving your golfing performance, and Srixon offers a range of impressive options. Through this guide, we’ve analyzed some of the best offerings from Srixon: the Z-Star, Z-Star XV, Z-Star Diamond, Soft Feel, and Soft Feel Lady.

Each of these balls brings its unique attributes to the game, catering to a variety of players’ needs. However, it’s important to remember that the best ball for you depends on your specific playing style, swing speed, and personal preferences.

Whether you’re looking for distance, accuracy, soft feel, or a combination of these characteristics, Srixon has a golf ball that can help elevate your game. So, take your pick and experience the difference a great ball can make on the course.

How do we test golf balls?

At National Club Golfer, we are passionate about producing accurate and thorough reviews and make sure our testing process is rigorous so we get a good understanding of how each club performs.

We headed to Woodhall Spa Golf Club to allow us to collect launch monitor data with our in-house TrackMan and Flightscope. We tested each golf ball on the putting surface and around the greens before collecting data on 50-yard pitch shots, with a 7-iron and with a driver.

What is important when buying a new golf ball?

Feel

Golf ball feel is a personal preference. Different balls on the market will feel softer or firmer depending on their compression and structure. It is crucial to test balls when putting, chipping and hitting long game shots to check you like the performance across all areas.

Distance

How far you want to hit the golf ball is a crucial consideration when picking a brand and model. Getting the right compression relative to your swing speed and strike will help you get the maximum distance out of a golf ball. You also need to consider if getting maximum distance is important to you or if you would rather give up some yardage to gain in other areas.

Spin

Generally, lower handicappers are looking for a ball that spins more so they can get more control around the greens. In this case, getting a ball with a urethane cover is really important as it will give you the most spin and control.

Price

Not everyone wants to spend £50 a dozen on golf balls. When picking the right golf ball for you, you should consider how much you want to spend relative to what performance you want.
