As always, the week before the Open Championship sees the Genesis Scottish Open take centre stage, and it has become an event which attracts the best players in the world.
The event is co-sanctioned between the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour, and is now always played at a critical point where players can get some reps in for links golf before competing in the sport’s oldest event.
The original Scottish Open dates all the way back to 1935, but this incarnation of the competition goes back around four decades.
Nowadays, the tournament is held at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The event has been held at the venue since 2019.
It sits on the eastern coastline of Scotland in a golfing paradise, with the likes of Archerfield, Gullane, North Berwick and plenty of others within just a few miles from its doors.
Rory McIlroy was the defending champion after his one-shot victory at Renaissance in 2023, but Robert MacIntyre finally got over the line in 2024 to win his home open.
Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Adam Scott, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Viktor Hovland, Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Brian Harman, Matt Fitzpatrick, Gary Woodland, Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka and J.J. Spaun are all in the field this week.
The tournament acts as perfect links preparation for The Open Championship to be held at Royal Portrush.
