Introduction
I didn’t even really know where to start in looking for a set of clubs for my five-year-old boy. Someone suggested simply going along to Sports Direct, but being in the golf industry I wanted to seek out options from known golf brands.
As soon as I saw the Junior set from Vice, I knew they were the one. Vice have always been a well-marketed brand, and I knew the colour combination, the look of the bag, and the clubs themselves would really appeal to my little boy. We got them in and headed to the driving range a couple of times last week to put them to the test. Read on to find out what I found in my full Vice Junior Golf Package set review….

First Impressions
I had shown my little boy the set online before they arrived, and he then proceeded to ask me if they were here every single day for the next week. They arrived whilst he was at school, and I opened the box and was genuinely really taken back by how great and high quality everything looked. I don’t really know what I was expecting… Maybe something a bit gimmicky and not to feel like a ‘proper golf’ set, but that quickly dissipated.
How I undertook the review
Once he got home from school and saw the clubs, that was it. We had to head straight to Woodsome Hall Golf Club to try them out. ‘Yeah we can do, but you are going to have to write a review for NCG’, I said. ‘Dad….I’m 5’. Fair enough.
So we headed to the golf course and bought a bucket of 60 balls to hit on the range. I had him hit every club in the bag before we then went to the practice putting green to try out the putter.

What I found
This is actually quite difficult because I was asking him for his comments after each club he hit, and a lot of the responses were “yes, they are really cool.” So I will step in here and say: I guess for a junior set, you are looking for them to be sturdy, easy to hit and to be attractive on the eye to a child.
As I said above, the clubs felt really high quality. Grips, shafts, heads were all really well designed and have a premium feel about them. One bit of feedback I did get as he was hitting one was that they felt ‘very soft’ when he hit the ball.
He was easily able to get the ball in the air with all of the clubs, so they are very forgiving even for a junior player.
As I have touched on above, the bag is also very high quality. It’s extremely lightweight, so he was able to carry it on his back with no problem, and it has plenty of space for balls, tees, a towel, and anything else he might want to bring. All of the little touches were very well thought out. The zippers were easy to operate, and the carry straps were easy for him to get on and off. He loves the look of the bag so much so that it has become a permanent fixture next to his wardrobe when not on the course.
After the range, we headed to the putting green and he was able to roll the ball with ease, and the alignment on top of the club also helped with direction of the putts. Again, the club felt really high quality to me and extremely cool looking to him.
I really do think Vice have nailed this. I spent a bit of time looking around for junior sets before settling on Vice, and none came anywhere near this level of spec.
Perhaps I am focusing too much on how the clubs look, but part of getting a youngster into golf is all about making it fun for them, and this set definitely does that.
Final thoughts
If you are a parent looking to get a new set for your child, I really think it starts and ends with this set.
Literally, the only drawback I can think of is that it comes with the 3-wood rather than a driver. As I have touched on before, he found it extremely easy to hit, and the added loft made it easier for him to get the ball airborne.
