First Impressions
You certainly won’t mistake this for a traditional blade. The Quaternion’s cylindrical, space-age look stands out immediately. It’s symmetrical front-to-back and left-to-right, a design that allows it to be used by both right- and left-handed golfers. While that might sound like a novelty, it stems from a serious engineering aim which is to achieve total balance and zero torque through impact.
It’s undeniably different. I even thought it looked a little weird at first glance, but it is undeniably intriguing.
On-course performance
At address, I found the putter wants to swing straight back and straight through. Golfers who naturally putt on a straight path will feel right at home, it resists twisting and almost guides your hands on plane. For someone coming from a blade-style putter, it was obvious to me to notice instantly the lack of face rotation. A big plus.
The sound and feel at impact on the golf ball are excellent. You are met with a crisp, sort of popping sound that feels both solid and responsive. The graphite shaft dampens harsh vibrations without feeling dead. It offers pleasing feedback on well-struck putts.
Short putts in particular feel automatic. I found that you can see how the zero-torque concept helps keep everything square.
The Sweet Spot Quaternion is the third-generation evolution of IB’s putter line, and, I have to say, it feels like the most refined yet. A graphite shaft helps reduce vibration and enhances feel, while the premium stitched leather grip delivers excellent tactile feedback and a touch of luxury.

The symmetrical central-shaft design means the shaft enters at the putter’s centre of gravity, promoting stability and the same response from either face. I think it is a clever piece of design that also cuts down on manufacturing complexity.
A bold alignment line runs front-to-back across the head, making setup intuitive and helping golfers who rely on a visual line for aiming.
NCG Verdict
Overall, I certainly acknowledge the IB Putter Sweet Spot Quaternion won’t be everyone’s cup of tea aesthetically. But as a piece of engineering, it’s exceptional. It’s beautifully made, easy to align, and promotes an incredibly stable stroke.
If you’re curious about zero-torque design or struggle with face rotation, it’s well worth a test. For traditionalists, the futuristic look may take some getting used to, but it’s one of the most distinctive putters you’ll ever roll.
