As a huge Rickie Fowler fan, I’ve always gravitated towards Puma, but oddly have never bought a pair of trousers from the brand. Fortunately, I got my hands on the Puma Jackpot Utility Pant this winter, and it’s safe to say it won’t be my last pair. Let’s get into the review…
Puma Jackpot Utility trousers review: First Impressions
Firstly, thanks to the abundance of size combinations on offer, can I just say how great it was get hold of some trousers which are 30 short. As a smaller golfer, I’ve always struggled to find pants which offer this size, so I was pleased Puma could accomodate this option.
Straight out the box, the first thing I noticed was the ridiculously elasticated waist. The fabric also felt much thicker to the conventional golf trouser, meaning I was confident they would be perfect for the cold weather.
Slipping them on, the fit was perfect. Not too long nor too baggy, with the waistband offering more than enough space if I decide to put on a size or two over the Christmas holidays.
Puma Jackpot Utility trousers review: On The Course
Thanks to Puma’s windCELL fabric, mud wiped away easily when teeing up out on the course. I’m used to wearing chinos where the turf will always stick my trousers during the winter, so this was a big plus.
The biggest takeaway when playing was the freedom of movement the Puma Jackpot Utility trousers offered. I could hardly feel my upper layers tucked in as a swung away thanks to the silicone gripper tape, which was a real plus.
I found this to be particularly the case when bending down to read putts or pick up the ball – which if you’ve seen my game, you’ll know is a lot – so I was massively chuffed with the comfort level.
The big deep pockets were also a nice added feature. As someone who constantly loses ball markers, pitch mark repairers and whatever else I decide to carelessly lose as I take my hands out of my pockets, it was refreshing to keep everything safe and sound while also maintaining warm hands.

On the flip side, the zips located on the back pockets were at times inconvenient, as I like to carry a scorecard holder which often got caught when taking in and out to mark my frequent double-bogeys.

Having worn these trousers on multiple occasions now, I can confidently say I’ll be buying Puma pants again in the future. They were nice and warm for the winter days thanks to the high functional materials, but were’t too weighty or overbearing as some winter offerings tend to be.
They also washed well, offered great freedom or movement, and were actually tapered as advertised.
