Hannah Holden rounds up the week’s equipment news

All the Gear: A surprise addition to Motocaddy's range, and are you willing to go plastic free?

Hello. Well, I’ve got a ridiculously busy few weeks ahead as my house starts filling up with brand new equipment for me to test out in my home setup. As you know our equipment reviews go out every Wednesday at 8pm and through January and early February we’ll be looking to up that to two a week – so make sure you’re subscribed to our YouTube channel so you don’t miss a thing.

Elsewhere, my colleagues and I have been putting together some handy buyer’s guides for you to make sure you don’t miss out on getting a golf-related Christmas present you actually want – so check those out.

In the meantime, here are some bits of gear news that caught my eye this week…

Back in black

Speaking of my equipment reviews, I recently put the brand new Q Follow electric trolley from Stewart Golf through its paces.

Now the Gloucestershire-based brand has revealed a special black edition – and I think we can all agree it looks fantastic.

The stealth look is engineered by the wheel arches, handle plaque, rear spine, and undertray which are all now presented in an elegant matte black finish.

What is it about an all black finish that just makes a product look so much more appealing? I’m all in.

RRP: £1,649

Motocaddy branch out

You probably weren’t excepting a Motocaddy laser, were you? Me neither. But the trolley brand have branched out and unveiled the new Pro 3000 rangefinder.

Motocaddy say it offers accuracy to less than a yard with 7X magnification at a range of 1,300 yards. It also features a slope offering to account for any change in elevation. Finding your distance is made easy with the help of the PinLock technology which vibrates and gives visual confirmation when you hit your target.

The case is also designed to attach directly to a Motocaddy Accessory Station for quick and easy access out on the course. It is completely rainproof and comes with an impressive 24-month warranty.

So what was the reason for moving into the laser market? Here’s what Motocaddy’s marketing manager Oliver Churcher had to say: “We regard Motocaddy as the ultimate caddie company, so developing a heavily-featured laser rangefinder was the logical next step for us after adding GPS distance to our top-of-the range trolleys.”

Available: Now
RRP: £269.99

Release the rainbow

You know at Christmas when you get those giant tubes of Jaffa Cakes? Well Volvik are up to something similar.

Just in time for the festive season the colourful brand has unveiled new Rainbow tube packs of its famous golf balls.

Aimed at recreational golfers, the new tube packs showcase the unique array of multi-coloured balls offered by Volvik and offer people a more visible ball to play during the winter months.

If brightly coloured balls aren’t your thing you can go for a standard white tube of balls which instead feature a neon glove option.

There are three golf ball types available.

The Vivid is a matte-finished ball designed for golfers with swing speeds from 70-90mph. It aims to provide longer distances and delivers a mid to high launch.

The Vimat ball is again suited for swing speeds from 70-90mph but offers lower spin and a higher ball flight off the tee.

And if you have a slower swing speed of 55-85mph the Vivid lite ball is for you and also has enhanced feel thanks to a lighter core.

Available: Now
RRP: £21.95
More info: Brand Fusion website

Will you go plastic free?

OceanTee are calling on amateur golfers, professional golfers, golf clubs and institutions to make the pledge to never use plastic tees again.

The brand believe a small personal change can make a massive difference and potentially lead to bigger conversations around sustainability in golf.

Here at NCG we think this is a great initiative so we have signed up and made a pledge to go plastic tee free.

If you want to get involved you can head over to the OceanTee website and get your own pledge card. Maybe you’ll grab some tees or a new jumper while you’re there?

We’re in, are you?
