Elie Golf Club – known formally as The Golf House Club, Elie – is about as traditional a golf course as you will find anywhere in Scotland. It epitomises Old Tom Morris’s design principles and is an object lesson in what makes a golf course engaging and enjoyable to play.
It’s also one of the finest links courses in Fife and for visitors, touring golfers and members alike it offers a warm welcome and an honest test of golf played over classic links terrain.
With views out to the Irish Sea and across the Firth to other stunning golf courses in East Lothian, it is no wonder why Elie has steadily climbed the rankings in recent years.
History
The game has been played across this gently rippling linksland since the 15th century. And just like St Andrews, the golf is seemingly inseparable from the community itself.
1875 saw the founding of the Golf Club House, Elie, with the building work completed just a couple of years later.
James braid learnt the game on these very links, before going on to win the Open Championship on five occasions. He would then go on to design some of the best golf courses in the country.
