Seacroft Golf Club is one of the finest golfing venues in the East Midlands, and although it is not right by the coast, it is still a cracking links layout.
Situated in the county of Lincolnshire, Seacroft is somewhat tucked away on the eastern coastline of England, in and amongst the Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve.
Like a traditional links course, it plays out-and-back on a narrow strip of land, and offers up pristine turf and glorious conditions for most of the year.
History
Seacroft Golf Club is one of the oldest golfing venues in the area, having first opened back in 1895. It originally began life as a 9-hole layout, before more land was acquired to the south. It would become an 18-hole course shortly after the turn of the century.
Willie Fernie, winner of the 1883 Open Championship, was the man who designed the original 18-hole layout at Seacroft. Clyde Johnson has been brought in over recent years to remodel the course and to bring back some of its historic features.
Over the years, the links have played host to notable competitions and national championships. The English County Finals, English Ladies County Finals and English Ladies Close Golf Championships have all been played at Seacroft.
What makes Seacroft Golf Club special?
There can’t be many places in the world that have turned down Dr Alister Mackenzie when it comes to golf course design. Seacroft is one of those…
That in itself makes Seacroft a special place to visit, because despite the legendary golf course designer not being brought in to help, Seacroft remains a truly wonderful golfing experience.

Where does it rank?
105th in GB&I, 51st in England, 4th in the East Midlands, 15th in England Value
Where is it?
Seacroft Golf Club is located on the Lincolnshire coast on the east of England, just over an hour east from the city of Lincoln in the town of Skegness. The A16, A52, A158 and A1028 all lead to Skegness from different directions. Skegness Station is just a mile north of the golf club, while the nearest major international airport is East Midlands Airport, which is more than a two hour drive away.
