Reason for a Salobre Golf Resort review
I was staying at the resort with my girlfriend and our baby daughter for a few days – and it would be rude not to try out the golf courses. I started with the Old course…
Where is Salobre Golf Resort?
The resort a couple of miles inland from the southernmost point of Gran Canaria in Spain, about a four-and-a-half hour flight from the UK.
What to expect
If Salobre’s Old course is a pleasant walk in the park on a warm summer’s day, the New is a day out at a theme park with the world’s craziest rollercoasters.
A links-style course due to the way it adapts to the environment and wild nature that will take your breath away at every turn.

Favourite hole
Take your pick of 18, really. The par-5 3rd is something else. The green seems reachable despite being 460 yards away on the other side of a canyon.

Don’t be a hero here – take 3-wood down the fairway, lay up short of the canyon and leave yourself a nice pitch in. Or be a hero. Your call. Either way, it’s tremendously fun.

The 5th is also mad. Here’s the tee shot…

My best bit
Another brilliant hole is the dramatic par-4 12th which feels like you’re driving off the edge of a cliff to a halfpipe fairway protected either side by sheer rock face. The fairway is quite wide, but you don’t really know this from the tee and it looks like there is so little to play with.

I was pretty happy to find my ball just shy of the green, primed for an-up-down for birdie.
What to look for
With plenty of spectacular views and array of shots that will take your breath away, Salobre Golf Resort’s New course really needs to be played to be believed.

If this course was within an hour of my house, I’d be demanding they take all my money for membership.

When I go back
If I ever holiday in Gran Canaria again, I will play this course at least once a day for the duration of my visit.
