It might be the home of the best resort in the country, but we could argue that Perthshire is the most underrated region in Scotland…
The Gleneagles Resort is not only the best all-round golfing venue in the country, thanks to everything that there is alongside the stunning collection of golf courses, but it is also one of the finest venues in the world.
So why then is the region of Perthshire so underrated? If it because it sits in the centre of the country, and therefore it does not have any links golf – archetypal to Scotland?
That might be what distinguishes the likes of Ayrshire, Fife, East Lothian and the Scottish Highlands, all of which can boast multiple sublime championship links venues.
Although Perthshire can’t do that, it can offer up some of the best inland courses in Scotland, with heathland and parkland course galore…

Why should you visit Perthshire for your next golf trip?
The majority of people, when they think of golf in the Scottish region of Perthshire, will immediately be drawn to the Gleneagles Resort, and rightly so.
The venue, which sits atop the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Resorts list, has pretty much everything that a visiting guest could wish for, including four golf courses and 63 holes of golf.
The original two layouts, the King’s Course and the Queen’s Course, were both designed by the great James Braid, and opened at the same time in 1919.
These two stunning layouts were then joined later in the resort’s life by what would eventually become known as the PGA Centenary Course.
The youngest of the three 18-hole tracks at Gleneagles has since gone on to become the only European venue to have played host to the Ryder Cup and the Solheim Cup – doing so within a five-year span between 2014 and 2019.

Gleneagles is not the only venue in the region that is home to more than one layout, though.
Blairgowrie Golf Club can also boast two fantastic 18-hole courses, both of which easily claim a place on the NCG Top 100s: Scotland list.
The venue is home to the Lansdowne Course and the Rosemount Course, along with the 9-hole Wee Course to make it into a 45-hole club.
Sitting next to Gleneagles is another fine venue that is also deserving of a place on the NCG Top 100s: Scotland list – Auchterarder.
Part of the course runs alongside the PGA Centenary Course at its next-door neighbour, and although they play somewhat similar in terms of the turf, a round at Auchterarder is a different feeling altogether, thanks in part the collection of sporty par 3s.

The region of Perthshire is also home to the likes of Alyth, Pitlochry and the Ferntower Course at Crieff, all of which are sublime inland courses in their own right.
