NCG Top 100s Tour Visits…. Trump International, Scotland

One of Aberdeenshire’s finest layouts played host to the NCG Top 100s Tour on a glorious day in September…

Possibly the best course in the north of Scotland, our competitors on the NCG Top 100s Tour got to take on Trump International Golf Links, Scotland.

It is one of the youngest courses that we took the NCG Top 100s Tour to over the course of the year, but it is also very much one of the best!

There are six sets of tees on the championship links at Trump International, with a whopping 2,200 yards between the Championship Black Tees and the forward Red tees. The Black play more than 7,400 yards, and with a Course Rating of 77.4, more than five shots above par! The Golds (7,000 / 75.5) and Blues (6,600 / 73.8) also play tough for the average golfer.

The Whites, which play 6,329 yards and with a gentle Course Rating of 72.3, were what our competitors had to deal with on a glorious sunny day on the Aberdeenshire coast. The Reds, which was where the Ladies played from, also have a Course Rating of just more than par – 72.6. They play from 5,200 yards, and with the same Par 72 as the men.

What is the course like and what are the best holes?

As the host of the Staysure Seniors PGA Championship on the European Legends Tour, you know that Trump International is going to be a great layout. In truth, there really are no bad holes on the course, which winds its way up and back along the North Sea coastline.

The layout winds its way through spectacular dunes, and you often feel like you are the only people on the golf course, as you can only see other holes from the very highest tee boxes. That produces a special feeling, and one you will want to come back and feel again, and again, and again.

There are two par 5s in the opening four holes, and both offer different challenges. Meanwhile, the par 3 3rd hole has an incredible view from behind the green, which you can see from below. Enjoy the walk from the 3rd to the 4th, and taken in the view between the dunes and out to the water.

The short par 4 7th, which plays just 245 yards from the White tees, offers up a great risk-reward offering. Some will choose to go for it off the tee, even with as little as a long iron, while others will opt for a mid-iron to play short of the trouble, before trying to find the very small green with a wedge. The 9th green, which brings the front nine to a close, is more than 50 yards and plays over three tiers. It is very easily three-, or even four-putted.

The closing hole on the Trump International, Scotland layout is an amazing par 5. Playing more than 650 yards from the very back tees, and even 585 yards from the Whites, it is a true three-shotter – especially if the wind is into your face, as it was on the day our competitors were there. With water down the left, dunes on the right, and no fewer than 14 bunkers dotted down the hole, there is plenty of trouble to avoid.

What did our competitors think of Trump International?

Looking for other opinions on Trump International? Check out what some of our players had to say about this championship venue here:

“This genuinely might be the best course I have ever played in Great Britain,” – Sarah Tryon

“A tough layout, especially for a low handicapper, but one I thoroughly enjoyed.” – Alan Smith

“I know some people that wouldn’t come here because of the name on the front door. All I can say is that they are truly missing out on a golfing masterpiece.” – Craig Darroch

What about the off-course facilities?

Trump International clubhouse

Away from the golf course, there are all the practice facilities you would expect at a stunning venue such as Trump International, Scotland. The driving range offers complimentary balls, and pristine turf to hit from. A range of flags, all the way up to 350 yards, also provide markers for you to get in the zone before taking to the first tee.

There is also a great short game area, with the opportunity to practice shots from tight lies, juicy rough, wispy grass and pot bunkers, to a large green that has a number of flags on different levels. On your walk to the first tee, you come to the putting green (above), which like the short game area, offers a range of putts, and to get you ready for the challenge that lies ahead.

The clubhouse, which was only opened in 2015, is a lovely place to relax both before and after your round of golf at Trump International Golf Links, Scotland. The building itself fits into the dunes, while the interior is comfortable and fancy. It also acts as the halfway house, with the course being split into two nines, both of which bring you back to the clubhouse building.

How can you play at Trump International?

Tee times are available every day of the week for visitors at Trump International, with prices for a game being more expensive on the weekend.

Although there is no page that explains the green fee pricing at Trump International, the prices are cleary stated on each tee time offering on the website.

The venue is located just off the A90 on the northeastern coastline of Scotland. The city of Aberdeen is just 20 minutes south of Trump International, Scotland.
