The NCG Top 100s Tour Match Play Final took place at a sumptuous venue, that shone even if the sun didn’t – Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell).
The course has played to the Brabazon Trophy on no fewer that six occasions, along with the English Amateur Championship as well. That explains the distance from the very tips…
There are five sets of tees at Hollinwell, with the Blues taking you all the way up to 7,250 yards. It plays with a Course Rating of 76.2, more than four shots higher than its par, and that is understandable considering there are only three par 4s of less than 400 yards from the Blues. The Whites (6,900 / 74.5) are also a tough prospect, but our players went off from the Yellows for the Match Play Final in mid-October. Even at 6,620 and with a Course Rating of 73.1, it is not a test to be shunned.
The Reds play from just shy of 5,900 yards for the Ladies at Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell), with a Course Rating of 75.7 from a Par 75. The Greens are the shortest layout on the property, coming in at just under 5,500 yards, and playing as a Par 72 for the Ladies.

What is the course like and what are the best holes?
Thanks to its hosting of the English Amateur Championship and the Brabazon Trophy, both on multiple occasions, it is no surprise that you would expect a brilliant and testing golf course. You won’t be disappointed when you get there!
The par 72 layout at Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell) is visually stunning, thanks to its holes that run through tree-lined fairways, and with heather blooming throughout the course. It is a tough start, with the opening four holes featuring two par 4s of more than 400 yards in length, and the first par 5 on the property as well.
If you can get through those four hole relatively unscathed, you then get to the first of the brilliant quartet of par 5s. The 5th is a glorious short hole, and although it is not the most difficult, it is arguably the prettiest hole on the course. Sandscapes sit between you and the putting surface, which is then guarded by a number of sand traps, while the bright purple heather sits to the right of the hole. This is golf as it was meant to be!

The final short hole is the 13th, and it is also the longest. From the elevated tee, you have a fine view of the green that sits below you. Club up to avoid the bunkers at the front, and you might well just come away with a good 3 (or a very good 3 from the back tees, with 13 playing at more than 240 yards from the Blues)!
From there, the closing stretch features a quartet of par 4s and the last par 5, which comes at the 17th. It offers up one final scoring opportunity at Hollinwell, playing just 485 yards from the Yellows. The final hole then brings you back to the clubhouse, and if you can come away with a par on the last then you will have finished on a high note!
