Our players go to enjoy a glorious day at a stunning venue at the start of September…

NCG Top 100s visits Luffenham Heath

It is one of the premier courses in the area, and our guests had a cracking day out at Luffenham Heath in early September.

Thanks to its range of tees, Luffenham Heath can be as long as 6,560 yards, while it can also play as short at 5,000 yards. The former is the Blues, with the Whites and Yellows also playing as a Par 70. All three have a Course Rating over par, with the Blues as high as 72.7 and with a Slope Rating of 138. The Whites (72.0) and the Yellows (70.9) also offer up more shots for handicap golfers.

The Ladies play off the Reds, with the course under 400 yards less than the Yellows. However, it does play as a Par 73 for the Ladies, with the Course Rating of 74.8 showing hos tough it is. The Greens are the friendliest of the courses, playing just over 5,000 yards, and as a Par 68 for the men, and a 70 for the ladies.

What is the course like and what are the best holes?

Colt, Braid, Steel, Cotton, Hawtree.

These are all names that are associated with the design of the golf course at Luffenham Heath. With an catalogue of names like that, you just know that you are in for a treat.

Luffenham’s strengths are its style and its variety: few holes are flat, at least until you reach the middle section of the course, and the run for home is a riot.

Once you reach the 16th tee, it’s time to prepare for the final stretch. This is a long par 4 down the hill with bunkers right to catch the fading drive. From an elevated tee, the 17th unfurls below you. It’s a tough, long par 3 – well bunkered and at the mercy of the wind. Finally, Luffenham closes with a fine par 5 that has decided many a match over the years. Better players will fancy their chances of a closing four but at over 550 yards it is a hole that must be respected.

“I did play well, which obviously helps! However, Luffenham is a beautiful course, and certainly somewhere that I will be playing at again!” – Duncan Woodcock

“This is not the first time I have played here, and it certainly won’t be the last. The course is always in pristine condition.” – Jonathan Oxley

There is also a glorious short game area and putting green to allow golfers to add those final touches to their practice before taking to the golf course.

The clubhouse at Luffenham Heath offers up a relaxed and comfortable environment for those golfers who have just finished taking on the course. There is an outside patio area which offers up views of both the opening and closing holes on the course. There is also a lounge which can be hired out for private functions, birthdays etc.
