Murrayshall – Perthshire’s best-kept secret – is ideal for families. The setting of this country estate is immediately appealing: rolling lawns, mature trees, and wide views make it feel like an escape from the everyday, yet it’s still conveniently located near Perth.

Fom a golfing perspective, that means you are close, or en route, to any number of famed Scottish courses – from Gleneagles to St Andrews, and Blairgowrie to Nairn.
Murrayshall Estate, the historic former home of Lord Lynedoch, has been a Scottish landmark for over 400 years.
The golf
Murrayshall’s two courses – the Championship Murrayshall and its sister Lynedoch – are parkland layouts set across the estate’s rolling 365 acres. Designed by Hamilton Stutt, they present contrasting tests of golf.

The Murrayshall is the more ambitious and expansive. Measuring 6,441 yards and with a par of 73, it weaves through mature woodland with several water hazards and bunkers.
The tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, with stray shots costly. The bunkering is bold, while water hazards and stone bridges create risk-reward scenarios.
Look out for the 7th, called Dog’s Grave. This dogleg par 4 requires a tee shot threaded between a lone tree and out-of-bounds, followed by an approach over a stream to reach an elevated green.
Visually, the Murrayshall is in excellent condition and takes full advantage of its setting: with sweeping views across Perthshire. There is a balance of longer, more forgiving holes and tighter, more demanding ones.
In contrast, the Lynedoch Course is shorter, tighter and less forgiving in some respects. Water hazards, bracken-filled gullies and small, undulating greens – built to USGA spec – ensure this is by no means light relief. It feels intimate and contained. Each hole is framed by trees and natural features.
The real strength of Murrayshall as a golf estate lies in having two courses that complement rather than mirror each other. The Murrayshall Course gives you a little more room for expression while the Lynedoch rewards finesse.

Accommodation and hotel facilities
Off the course, with around 40 rooms and suites, the hotel balances classic style with touches of modern comfort. Some rooms are designated family or dog-friendly, which helps in catering to guests traveling with children or pets. The overall atmosphere is warm and not formal – a good balance for families.

In addition to these options, and brand new, is a collection of luxury accommodation pods as the first phase of an ambitious £30 million transformation project.
It offers groups of golfers, couples and families staying at Murrayshall with a range of sizes to suit different needs. The two-bed pod provides ample space for four golfers and comes with a relaxing hot tub to wind down after golf.
Murrayshall offers a Pursuits programme, which comprises a variety of land and water activities. They include guided walks around the estate, paddle boarding, kayaking tours on nearby waterways and quad-bike treks.

Dining here leans toward refined, Scottish-influenced cuisine. The resort provides both a fine-dining restaurant (Eòlas) and more casual dining options (Cairns and Barossa) along with bar and lounge spaces. This flexibility is ideal for families.
Coming soon is a new state-of-the-art driving range, the addition of 25 holiday lodges, plus a spa and leisure complex that will take the venue’s best-in-class facilities to the next level.
Murrayshall’s charm lies in how it weaves classic country house ambience with options (golf, water, land pursuits) to appeal across the generations. If your family enjoys a calm countryside escape with opportunities for adventure, look no further.
