Many venues can say that have a great golf course. However, Monifieth can say it is blessed with 36 holes of great links golf.
The Medal Course, first extended to 18 holes in the late 1800s, is one of the finest layouts in the Scottish county of Angus, with the Ashludie Course providing the perfect complement.
Small greens are one of the Medal’s characteristics, with those surfaces only rewarding solid iron play. Throw in the railway line – a key for any links course – and you’ll feel right at home.
History
Although golf was played in this part of the world from as early as the 17th Century, the original course at Monifieth was laid out in 1845.
Back then, it was known as Panmure Golf Club, before the club moved to its current location just prior to the turn of the 20th Century.
With the introduction of another 9 holes shortly before the First World War, the 18-hole layout was renamed the Medal Course, with the Ashludie Course then being extended to 18 holes later on – turning Monifieth into a 36-hole venue.
What makes Monifieth Golf Links special?
Monifieth Golf Links is blessed with not one, but two stunning courses – the Medal Course and the Ashludie Course – making it 36 holes of golfing paradise.
As with all links courses, there is always a railway line that comes into play. The opening stretch of the Medal Course plays with the main London-Aberdeen line as a constant threat on its right side.
The Ashludie’s fun comes in the form of drivable par 4s and short par 3s, with scoring opportunities throughout the 18-hole layout.

Where does it rank?
Medal Course – 58th in Scotland, 4th in Angus
Ashludie Course – 10th in Angus
