If you think you’ll struggle to find a course with moorland and heathland properties in the north of England, think again.. Manchester Golf Club has you covered.
This Harry Colt design has a rural feel to it, all while offering up views of Manchester’s bustling city centre from its location. Trees, heather and plenty of other challenges will test golfers of all abilities.
Our competitors found that out on a blisteringly hot day in June, eight weeks after the event was first scheduled to take place in April before inclement weather saw us postpone the event.
For the men, the course is staggered rather nicely in terms of its yardage and Course Rating. For most, the Yellows will offer a challenge at just over 6,200 yards (71.4), while the Whites come in just shy of 6,500 (72.6). The Blue tees are the real test, playing as a 73.6 Course Rating, with a yardage of 6,670 yards.

What is the course like and what are the best holes?
With tree-lined fairways, plenty of sand traps and heather all around, Manchester Golf Club will provide a proper test of golf to players of all abilities.
Two early chances come for the longer hitters, with a pair of par 5s at the 2nd and 3rd, both measuring 540 yards from the Blue tees. Short par 4s and long par 3s are part of the layout before you reach a very tough closing stretch.
15 and 17 are both par 4s of more than 400 in length, even off the yellows, while the par 3 16th plays more than 200 yards from the Yellows. If you’re playing from the tips, it can push up to 240 yards! The closing hole at Manchester offers up a final birdie opportunity, but the green does slope from front to back…
The aforementioned 16th is one of the signature holes at Manchester Golf Club – unsurprising when some will have to take driver to even reach the front edge! The front edge is where you want to be, though, as that will leave you with an uphill putt on a tricky green.

The 14th is the last of the par 5s at Manchester Golf Club, and at 468 yards from the Yellows, it is certainly a scoring opportunity. It plays as a dog-leg left, and one that can be attacked by the longer hitters. Find the fairway and reaching the green in two is very much achievable.

What about the off-course facilities?
Away from the course, Manchester is also home to some of the best practice facilities in the region, with a 300-yard driving range, short game area and a sublime putting green in front of the clubhouse.
The range was opened in 2023, after a three-year development, and includes TrackMan Range technology. The short game area, of some 500 square metres, features two chipping greens, a number of bunkers and pin positions. The putting green sits in front of the clubhouse, and has a floral decor and the flagpole of the club in the centre of it.
The clubhouse offers a relaxing environment for golfers following a round, but it is not just for golfers. There is also an Events and Wedding section to Manchester Golf Club, with birthday parties, conferences, weddings and plenty more held throughout the year.
