Fife’s inland beast that is a match for its celebrated links neighbours

Ladybank is a great-value inland course offering golfers a strong alternative to Fife’s best links layouts

Fife has few peers when it comes to links courses but those who venture further inland will also find themselves greatly rewarded. Powerhouses including St Andrews, Kingsbarns, Leven Links and Elie are rightly celebrated in this part of the world – but Ladybank offers a welcome alternative to its coastal neighbours.

History

Ladybank was founded in 1879 and four-time Open champion Old Tom Morris was tasked with crafting a course through swathes of heather.

As you would expect, Old Tom created a stunning layout that has stood the test of time.

Ladybank has hosted Local Final Qualifying for the Open on seven occasions since 1978 as well as qualifying for the Senior Open.

Why it’s special

It is a course to tease into submission rather than overpower; if you stray off the mainly flat fairways, expect to be punished for your sins.

The greens are compact and your approach shot requires precision to find the usually pristine putting surfaces.

The course also represents great value for its quality and we recently ranked it inside our Top 100 Value Courses in Great Britain.

Where does it rank?

8th in Fife, 42nd in Scotland and 141st in GB&I.

Where is it?

Ladybank can be found in the picturesque Scottish county of Fife, around 16 miles inland from St Andrews. It is about an hour’s drive from the centre of Edinburgh and one hour and 30 minutes from Glasgow.
