Some might think that Auchterarder Golf Club is overshadowed by its next-door neighbour, but that simply isn’t the case…
Located next to the vast Gleneagles Resort, Auchterarder has been around for about the same length of time. First founded in 1912, the club offers a glorious parkland course that runs through the trees.
Golfers playing at Auchterarder are treated to sublime views towards Glendevon.
History
The club dates back to 1912, but a high percentage of the club’s membership were drafted for the First World War.
A new 18-hole course was built in the 1970s, and it remains almost the same today as it was back then, bar some holes being lengthened and a new drainage system being implemented in the early 21st Century.
What makes Auchterarder special?
The strength of Auchterardrer Golf Club is not in its length. The course only plays at 5,800 yards from the tips, and offers some incredible views of the hills of the region.
The course also plays through three distinct types. The first six holes are played over flat parkland, the middle six travel through moderately hilly woodland and the final six holes revert back to parkland, this time more undulating than the start of the course.
One of the quirks of Auchterarder Golf Club is that there are six par 3s, providing you with a number of opportunities to pop a 2 on your card!
