Auchterarder Golf Club might sit in the shadows of its next-door neighbour, but it is a sublime parkland layout in its own right!
Located next to the wonderful Gleneagles Resort, Auchterarder has been around for about the same length of time. First founded in 1912, the club offers a glorious parkland course that runs through the trees.
Now on its second layout following the Second World War, golfers who make the trip to Auchterarder are treating to some stunning views of Core Hill, King’s Seat Hill and the Glen Devon Forest.
History
The club dates back to 1912, but a high percentage of the club’s membership were drafted for the First World War.
During that time, as well as during the Second World War in the 1940s, the land was taken over for agricultural purposes, with the course being lost.
However, a new 18-hole course was built in the 1970s, and it remains almost the same today as it was back then, bar some holes being lengthened and a new drainage system being implemented in the early 21st Century.
What makes Auchterarder Golf Club special?
The strength of Auchterardrer Golf Club is not in its length. The course only plays at 5,800 yards from the tips, and offers some incredible views of the hills of the region.
The course also plays through three distinct types. The first six holes are played over flat parkland, the middle six travel through moderately hilly woodland and the final six holes revert back to parkland, this time more undulating than the start of the course.
One of the quirks of Auchterarder Golf Club is that there are six par 3s, providing you with a number of opportunities to pop a 2 on your card!

Where does it rank?
