Texan adds FedEx title with victory at East Lake

Who won what and where: Spieth completes magic season

PGA Tour: Tour Championship – Jordan Spieth

In the end there was no need to pore over the endless FedEx Cup permutations as Spieth closed out his sensational season with a four-shot win at East Lake.

The 22-year-old made it win No 5 for 2015 to also clinch the $10m FedEx bonus as well as move back to the top of the world rankings. When the votes are totted up he will almost certainly add the Player of the Year title.

Spieth missed the cut in the first two FedEx play-off events but went into Sunday with a one-shot advantage over Henrik Stenson. After a slow start he birdied 8, 9 and 11, the last from nearly 50 feet. Stenson’s race was finally run when he shanked one from the middle of the 17th  fairway.

European Tour: European Open – Thongchai Jaidee

A seventh win for Jaidee after he held off Graeme Storm in Germany to become just the second Asian player – the first was Isao Aoki at Sunningdale in 1983 – to capture this title.

The 45-year-old Thai player, who will make his Presidents Cup debut in two weeks, came to the last needing a par but then hit the greenside hospitality unit before a lengthy ruling after his ball finished in between some re-laid turf.

But he chipped up to eight feet and rolled the putt in.

Storm was second in this event 10 years ago when Kennie Ferrie prevailed at the K Club but he did have the consolation of securing his card for 2016.

What he said: “It’s a very special week for me. It is the third time I have won outside of Asia, so I’m very excited about that and I’m happy to win this tournament. I’m feeling very confident at the moment. I didn’t make many mistakes this week – only one bogey all week.

“It was very exciting on the last three holes. The 18th is tough and you can’t miss the fairway. I had to go left and then it was a good chip and a good putt at the last to win.”

Ladies European Tour: Ladies Open de France – Céline Herbin

Herbin became the first home winner of the tournament for 11 years after coming through a three-hole play-off with Danish rookie Emily Pedersen.

It was a first win on Tour and a par at the 18th was enough after the Dane three-putted.

They began the final round tied for the lead, Pedersen then built a five-shot lead but a bogey on 16 and double at the next let in Herbin who had Seve Ballesteros’ brother Vicente on her bag. He is also her coach.

Charley Hull was fourth on her own.

What she said: “To win my first tournament in my home country with so many people cheering for me, it’s like a dream. Obviously I didn’t make the best first nine holes

but I believed in myself and knew I could turn it around.
