The Valspar Championship has been played under many different names since the tournament’s inception in 2000.

Of course, the prize money has massively increased as we’ve grown into the millennium. The first winner, John Huston, won $432,000 in the event’s first year.

24 years later, the likes of Sam Burns, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas competed for the winner’s cheque of $1,512,000 at the Copperhead course at Innisbrook Resort.

However, it was Peter Malnati who outperformed his rivals last week, securing a two-shot victory on 12-under-par.

Always the bridesmaid, Cameron Young came second for the seventh time in his PGA Tour career. It is surely only a matter of time until the young American breaks his duck.

Taylor Moore won $1,458,000 last year, beating Adam Schenk by one shot. The winner’s pot has gradually increased over the years and the tournament has never seen such a large pool of money.
