It’s been wet at Oakmont in the lead-up to the 2025 US Open. Very wet.

The weather is one of many dynamics at a tournament that has a huge bearing on the winner. Could the greens and fairways be softer than we would like at the US Open, which has been firm and fast on so many occasions?

Pinehurst was rock hard in 2024 when Bryson DeChambeau won, but Oakmont is a different beast altogether. There’s rough at this Pennsylvania venue and plenty of it. It’s juicy too and is another feature of the golf course that can play differently from one day to the next depending on the weather.

In these times of need, we look to Accuweather to provide us with the outlook this week in Plum, where the best players will be playing at what is always touted as golf’s toughest test.

US Open weather 2025

The rain should stay away from Oakmont on the day before the first round on Thursday, June 12. It’s meant to be largely warm throughout the week, but Monday and Tuesday could bring thunderstorms and more rain.

There should be periods of sunshine in round one and there is no rain forecast for when the players get underway on Thursday. Showers are due on Friday, so the course could become more moist in round two.

Unfortunately, there could be more rain coming on Saturday in round three, which will not please the spectators, but could this make conditions favourable for the players who can arrow approach shots to the pins and stop them by the hole?

Again, thunderstorms could arrive on Sunday in the final round. In summary, players and fans will need their umbrellas for the majority of the week.
