The US Open is such an exciting event. Golf fans can barely wait for the first tee time, and this will be no different at the 2025 tournament at Oakmont in Plum, Pennsylvania.
It is a brutal test that has hosted the US Open more than any other venue in the US. Dustin Johnson won the event in 2016 at this venue, which was his first major triumph, and a long-awaited one at that.
It is America’s national championship and one that every player, let alone Americans, want to win. If you have won the US Open, you know your game can stand up to stern tests.
In 2024, Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy treated us to one of the best US Opens and one of the best major championship finishes in recent memory at Pinehurst. McIlroy missed two short putts in the final round to gift DeChambeau his second US Open win.
DeChambeau sealed victory with a remarkable up and down from a bunker on the 18th hole for a par.
“I’m so happy I got that shot up-and-down on 18 (laughter). Oh, man, I didn’t want to finish second again. PGA really stung. Xander played magnificent,” DeChambeau said after winning.
“I wanted to get this one done, especially at such a special place that means so much to me, SMU, my dad, what Payne meant to him, 1000th USGA championship. Stack them on top.
“That bunker shot was the shot of my life. I’ll forever be thankful that I’ve got longer wedges so I can hit it farther, get it up there next to the hole (smiling).
“I don’t know what to think. It fully hasn’t sunk in yet. I just want everybody to enjoy it, as well. As much as it is heartbreaking for some people, it was heartbreak for me at the PGA. I really wanted this one.”

This year, DeChambeau is playing with US Amateur champion and LIV Golfer Josele Ballester and Xander Schauffele from hole 1 in the first round in the afternoon at 12.29 pm UK time, which means 7.29 am US time. McIlroy is playing with Shane Lowry and Justin Rose from hole 10 at 12.40 pm UK time, which is 7.40 am US time.
The first tee time is at 11.45 am UK time, so 6.45 am US time, which sees Matt Vogt (a), Kevin Velo and Trent Phillips get things going on hole 1. Zac Blair, Scott Vincent and Alistair Docherty will get things underway on hole 10 in a two-tee start at the same time.
