Will Tiger play on at 50? He’s just dropped a massive clue

Tiger Woods has achieved a little more than most during his phenomenal career, but is it the senior circuit or retirement next?

Tiger retirement

December will be a big month for Tiger Woods. Not only will the 15-time major champion take the reigns as a Presidents Cup player-captain for only the second time in history, he will also celebrate his 44th birthday.

As those of you with keen minds would have already worked out, that leaves Tiger a little over six years from reaching the big 50 and, with it, the option to play on the PGA Tour Champions.

In an interview with Australian station Triple M’s Hot Breakfast show, Woods gave a tease of what he might do when he surpasses that milestone and the chance to join the senior circuit.

“I think the golden carrot of getting out there when I’m 50 is getting a cart!” he said, laughing.

Tiger’s friendships with current PGA Tour Champions players Steve Stricker, Fred Couples and Mark O’Meara have been well documented over the years.

Should he wish to join his pals in 2026, the option of using a cart may seem very appealing.

John Daly, a two-time major winner, suffers from knee injuries and is able to use a buggy on a weekly basis. Given Woods’ injury history he would be assured of using a cart.

That, and the fact he is Eldrick Tont Woods, where it is likely any kind of exception would be made to accommodate him on the senior circuit.

When asked about his post-golf retirement plans however, Woods showed his passion for a certain topic with an Australian-sized f-bomb.

“For me it’s simple,” he explained. “I love spearfishing. I love being in the water, I love hunting. I like going on hunting trips, fishing trips and diving trips so to me, just being out in nature is the f***ing ultimate best.

“I don’t like being around a lot of people in that regard. I like being out in nature because that’s what I grew up with, that’s what I do. Golf is out in nature, so to me that’s the ultimate best.”

When Woods decides to hang up his clubs is another issue entirely, but fans can be encouraged by his words that they will be treated to at least a couple of years on the PGA Tour Champions before he takes to the water.
