A strange record has just been broken on the PGA Tour

Other than his 2016 European Tour title in Australia, Harold Varner III is perhaps best known for shooting 81 while playing in the final group with Brooks Koepka on the last day of the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage.
Now the 29-year-old American has a rather strange slice of PGA Tour history.
Varner parred every hole in the first round of the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open, before opening with 14 more on day two. Put your calculator away, that’s a whopping 32 – a PGA Tour record since ShotLink has been used.
The previous record for most consecutive pars in a single PGA Tour tournament, if you’re wondering, was KJ Choi with 27 at the 2006 Bank of America Colonial – now the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Varner’s streak ended with a birdie at TPC Scottsdale’s par-5 15th. He then finished bogey-birdie-bogey to miss the cut on even par.
