Nordea Masters preview
With the conclusion of the majors for another year, a six week stretch of golf begins in Europe that could prove pivotal for players looking to make the Ryder Cup team next month in Paris.
This week, we head to Sweden for the Nordea Masters at the Hills Golf Club, just south of Gothenburg.
Playing as a par 71 at just over 7,100 yards, the Hills Golf Club is a modern course that incorporates all aspects of golf design. Parkland, marshland and even a little bit of links – this layout seemingly has it all and it will no doubt provide an extremely interesting test for some of the European Tour’s finest.
Fresh off a fine stretch of form, Thorbjorn Olesen is on the cusp of automatic Ryder Cup qualification and, as a result, he headlines the field. A win here would surely lock up his spot for Le Golf National.
Perhaps the only other player in this field with the potential of getting a captain’s pick is Martin Kaymer, although it would probably take multiple wins for Bjorn to even consider the German who’s been really struggling for form.
Nordea Masters betting tips
Marcus Kinhult (40/1, 6 places) has impressed at European Tour level on a number of occasions in recent years, most notably at Le Golf National a few months ago, and he looks a solid bet at the prices.
The young Swede burst onto the scene when still a Challenge Tour player at this tournament three years ago when leading after the halfway stage only to falter over the weekend.
More recently, Kinhult finished fifth at the Open de France and registered another top-five finish at the Qatar Masters earlier in the season. He also flew under the radar when finishing 12th at the BMW PGA Championship in May.
Kinhult has said that he lives very close to Hills Golf Club and, as a result, he probably knows this layout like the back of his hand.
So Keel has high hopes for Kinhult, but who else is on his radar? Check out his each-way selections on the next page…
