Made in Denmark report: What happened at Himmerland Resort?

Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger survived a final hole scare to return to the winners’ circle for the first time since 2017.

An epic final-round duel with Robert MacIntyre had several twists and turns and came down to the very last hole, with the Austrian hitting his tee shot into a hazard and scrambling to a bogey.

The Scottish challenger did have a long putt for birdie on the last, to force a playoff, but it rolled just past and his wait for a first tour win goes on.

Last year, Wiesberger suffered a wrist injury and spent seven months away from the game, but in recent times has been showing glimpses of his game returning to its former heights.

Romain Langasque took 3rd place and there were a host of players a 9-under for a share of 4th, including Oliver Wilson and Paul Dunne.

Made in Denmark report: Talking points

The European Tour announced that it will return to the Himmerland Resort next May for the 2020 Made in Denmark.

On Sunday, the organisers announced on Twitter that the tour’s best would be welcomed back for another year in a similar way to that of the British Masters two weeks ago.

The course has proved to be a good test and a great venue for such a popular event.

**

The Made in Denmark is one of the most unique and fun events on tour and this week, the walk between the 13th green and 14th tee captured that.

The Heineken beer tent was positioned between the two locations, with players and caddies required to walk through the middle of it to reach the tee.

The songs played when golfers walked through were clearly carefully selected to fit the situation, as the very last song of the week for the final round leaders showed.

There were high-five’s all-round and even some tidy dance moves, step up Jamie Donaldson…

This is the sort of initiative that makes the event so special and it would be great to see more of this kind of thing across professional golf tours to draw in the crowds.

**

We know just how good the European Tour are at creating content with their players and this week we saw the next instalment of their 14 club challenge.

Stepping up this time is Danish favourite Soren Kjeldsen and 2018 Ryder Cup vice captain, Robert Karlsson.
