My hardest golfers: No 8 – Suzann Pettersen
Has anyone ever hated losing more than the ferociously competitive Norwegian? In her Solheim Cup debut, on American soil, she came back from five down with five to play to secure a half against Michele Redman.
Her overall record of 18 wins and six halves from 36 matches is astonishing given America’s overall dominance over the period.
Yet she almost brought the whole Solheim Cup down over gimme-gate when insisting that Alison Lee’s short putt had not been conceded and therefore claiming the hole. In doing so she single-handedly dismantled 20 years of European occupation of the Solheim Cup moral high ground.
