Part of the PGA Tour’s ‘West Coast Swing’, the Farmers Insurance Open Express was established in 1952 and is now one of the staple events on the American circuit.
The tournament originated as the San Diego Open and used that name until 1985. Event sponsors were added in 1981, first with Wickes, Isuzu, Buick and then Farmers Insurance in 2010.
Since 1968, the event has been staged at the iconic Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, San Diego. In the current set-up, players split the first 36 holes between the North and South courses. The latter than stages both weekend days.
Tiger Woods has won the Farmers Insurance Open a record seven times, while other past winners include John Daly, Justin Rose, Patrick Reed and Jason Day.
