See how much each player will take home from Dubai in November…
The Race to Dubai is a season-long competition to crown the DP World Tour’s number one player.
The entire DP World Tour regular season leads to the Race to Dubai finale, with each DP World Tour event offering points to players.
After Max Homa won the Nedbank Golf Challenge, this confirmed that Rory McIlroy won the 2023 Race to Dubai as he can’t be overtaken by anyone at the top of the rankings.
This is the fifth time the Northern Irishman has won the season-long points list in Europe.
It is also the first time a player has won the Race to Dubai before the final event of the season. He sat more than 2,000 points ahead of Jon Rahm with a maximum of 2,000 points available to the winner of the DP World Tour Championship.
The 34-year-old is now three titles behind Colin Montgomerie who won the European Order of Merit eight times.
“I know Monty won eight of these things. Hopefully, I can keep on the journey and try and get close to him,” he said.
The top 50 players in the rankings are eligible for the DP World Tour Championship. This is competed at the Earth Course at Jumeirah in, of course, Dubai.
The prize purse at the DP World Tour Championship is $10 million with the winner banking $3 million for their troubles.
The purse rose to $10 million in 2022 which became the event’s record prize purse since its inception in 2009 when Lee Westwood won by six shots from Ross McGowan.
It is the most lucrative event on the DP World Tour and there is also an added incentive of the $6 million bonus pool for the top eight finishers in the Race to Dubai.
Rahm won this event last season for the third time in his career, beating Tyrrell Hatton and Alex Noren by two shots on 20-under-par.
The end-of-season event always attracts a host of European stars and a large portion of the 2023 European Ryder Cup team are in the field this week – with Ludvig Aberg choosing to play in the RSM Classic on the PGA Tour.
It’s an event that always brings fireworks and England’s Matt Wallace proved that by making a birdie on every hole on the back nine on Saturday.
After a tense finish, Denmark’s Nicolai Hojgaard won the event by two shots from Wallace, Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland.
