If you take a look at the majority of golfers, not just professionals, you’ll notice one thing, mostly they are right-handed. It got us thinking, who are the best left-handed golfers to play the game? Quick 9 runs the rule over our favourite southpaws.

It’s worth noting the first left-hander you come across in the World Golf Rankings is Bubba Watson who currently sits 14th.

Best left-handed golfers

9. Nick O’Hern

Nick O'Hern

Major best: T6 (2006 US Open)
PGA Tour of Australasia victories: 2

Despite failing to record a win on the PGA Tour O’Hern still earned around $7.5 million on tour mainly thanks to 23 top 10s, four 3rd place finishes and his best PGA Tour finish, a tied 2nd place at the 2006 Booze Allen Classic.

In an ode to his native Australia, O’Hern marks his balls with a small picture of a kangaroo.

8. Eric Axley

Eric Axley

Major best: T9 (2008 US Open)
PGA Tour victories: 1

Axley won his only PGA Tour title in 2006 and by 2009 had lost his card.

He got it back in 2014 by the skin of his teeth as he finished 50th in the Web.com Finals and finished in the top 50 by around $30.

He now plays the majority of his golf on the Web.com Tour.

7. Brian Harman

Brian Harman

Major best: T2 (2017 US Open)
PGA Tour victories: 2

Harman turned professional in 2009 but didn’t win his first PGA Tour title until 2014. His second came in 2017 at the Wells Fargo Championship and Harman has had his best spell since. A tied 2nd finish at the US Open was his other highlight of 2017.

He’s also started 2018 where he left off and has finished inside the top 10 on five occasions.

6. Ted Potter Jr

Ted Potter Jr

Major best: T60 (2012 Open)
PGA Tour victories: 2

Another player that has flirted between the PGA Tour and the Web.com Tour but recently Potter won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and shot a career-low score of 62 during the third round.

His victory catapulted him from 243rd to 83rd in the world rankings.

5. Steve Flesch

Steve Flesch

Major best: T5 (2008 Masters)
PGA Tour victories: 4

Flesch was named 1998 Rookie of the Year on the PGA Tour, joining the likes of Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Vijay Singh to win the award.

He hasn’t won on tour since 2007 and hasn’t played in a full season since 2011.

4. Mike Weir

Mike Weir

Major victories: 1
WGC victories: 1
PGA Tour victories: 6

Weir’s biggest achievement was pulling on the Green Jacket at Augusta in 20o3 as he defeated Len Mattiace in a play-off by winning with a bogey on the first play-off hole.

Weir was in the top 10 of the official golf rankings between 2002 and 2005.

3. Bob Charles

Bob Charles

Major victories: 1
PGA Tour victories: 5
European Tour victories: 4
Senior PGA Tour victories: 23
European Senior Tour victories: 1

Charles won the Open Championship in 1963 by winning a 36 hole play-off.

He went on to have an incredible senior career as he won 23 times and was also the first left-handed player inducted in to the Golf Hall of Fame.

2. Bubba Watson

Bubba Watson

Major victories: 2
WGC victories: 2
PGA Tour victories:
 8

Gerry Lester Watson Jr, Bubba to you and me, is most famous for his unorthodox swing and pink driver.

He’s won 12 different times on the PGA Tour including two wins at The Masters, slipping into the Green Jacket in 2012 and again in 2014.

He is also a member of the infamous Golf Boys.

1. Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson

Major victories: 5
WGC victories:
2
PGA Tour victories:
 36
European Tour victories: 1

The most well-known and most successful left-handed golfers of all time. Lefty is even his nickname.

Mickelson is in the top 10 of all time PGA Tour wins with 42, including five major titles, and needs a US Open win to complete a Grand Slam. In 2012, he was just the second left-handed golfer inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame.

And did you know Mickelson is actually right-handed in everything except golf?

Not one to change his equipment too often, Matthew currently plays the TaylorMade M2 driver which has lasted the test of time in his bag. Elsewhere, you’ll find him using the TaylorMade Stealth 2 three-wood with a Ping G425 Crossover 2-iron to aid his long game.

Through his 4-iron to Gap Wedge, Matthew uses the Ping i500 irons accompanied by Ping’s Glide 3.0 56-degree and 60-degree wedges.

Another club that has stood the test of time in his bag is a Nike Method Core MC-3i putter which has had to have the SuperStroke grip changed at least three times. Ball of choice is the Titleist ProV1.
