The Tour Championship is back for another year. Sure, there is more excitement and more golf for us to watch, but it marks the end of another season
The regular season ended with the Wyndham Championship, which was the last chance for players on the PGA Tour to earn their spots in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup rankings who have battled their way through the FedEx St. Jude Championship and the BMW Championship get to compete at East Lake in Atlanta, Georgia.
East Lake is a historic venue. It hosted the US Women’s Amateur in 1950, the Ryder Cup in 1963, and the US Men’s Amateur in 2001. It was established in 1904 and was the home course of Bobby Jones.
Using aerial images from 1949, architect Andrew Green led a complete restoration of the course which was first played on by the stars in 2024, when Scottie Scheffler won the Tour Championship.
This year, starting strokes have been removed. The once-staggered format, where players would begin the Tour Championship on scores determined by the quality of their seasons, has been scrapped.
It will be a 72-hole stroke play event, like 99% of events in the game, with all players starting at even par. The best performer will win the FedEx Cup.
