The 2025 Open Championship is upon us. The wait is almost over.
The best players in the world will tee off at Royal Portrush on the Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland in pursuit of the Claret Jug and glory at the final major of the year.
American Xander Schauffele is the defending champion and he is looking to become the first player to successfully defend the famous trophy since Padraig Harrington in 2008.
Schauffele performed superbly in the brutal conditions of Royal Troon 12 months ago to win his second major. Just two months before, he won the PGA Championship at Valhalla to prove his major credentials for the first time.
Competing with him will be the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and a host of stars from the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and the LIV Golf League.
Having returned last week at the Genesis Scottish Open, McIlroy will be hoping to win The Open on home turf after completing the career grand slam at the Masters.
Other leading contenders include the best player in the world Scottie Scheffler, Spaniard Jon Rahm and a whole host of other stars, including Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, Bryson DeChambeau, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood.
Shane Lowry won The Open in dominant fashion when it was last held on the Dunluce Links.
