Royal Troon was playing about as tough as you could imagine in the afternoon of the second round.
With astronomic scores recorded on almost every hole during day two of The Open Championship, Sky Sports tweeted a graphic depicting the worst scores made on each hole on Friday.
The frightening number came to 53-over-par. That’s 124 shots in simpler terms. A little before 5 pm, there were three nines and an eight on this eclectic scorecard. Much to the relief of sympathising club golfers, no doubt…
Unfortunately for Aguri Iwasaki, he is the culprit who made back-to-back nines on holes 13 and 14. He was 11 over through two holes and ended up shooting 91 in South Ayrshire. Angelo Hidalgo also made a nine on the 4th hole.

The stars of the game weren’t immune to embarrassment on day two of the championship either. Joaquin Niemann took eight shots to play the par-3 8th hole, famously named the Postage Stamp.
There were sixes and sevens galore on the worst scorecard accumulated by the competitors on the west coast of Scotland, with the 18th hole being the only one that didn’t yield worse than a bogey at that stage.
Rory McIlroy took the same number of shots to play the 4th hole and Sahith Theegala made a snowman on the par-5 6th. Recent Genesis Scottish Open winner Robert MacIntyre was seven-over-par through his opening nine holes, while the two-time PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas went out in 45 strokes.
While the chaos was unravelling, Shane Lowry sat tight in the clubhouse after carding a 69 earlier in the day. His mark of 7-under-par is inviting, and he is two shots clear of Dan Brown on 5-under.
