The first day of the Masters is one of the most anticipated days of the golf calendar.
We’ve been to Phoenix, we’ve been to Torrey Pines, we’ve been to TPC Sawgrass. The players are primed by the time they drive down Magnolia Lane in April and they all want to peak by the time they step on to the tee at Augusta National on that magical Thursday morning.
Scottie Scheffler won the Masters for the second time in 2024 and in the first two rounds, he was paired with Rory McIlroy who needs to win the Masters to complete the career grand slam, and Xander Schauffele who went on to win the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.
In 2025, McIlroy has been paired with Ludvig Aberg and Akshay Bhatia, and Scheffler has been paired with Justin Thomas and Jose Luis Ballester.

Masters Thursday tee times 2025
The honorary starters teeing off is one of the most-loved traditions of the tournament. Many of golf’s biggest icons like Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Gene Sarazen, Fred McLeod and Jock Hutchison, plus the aforementioned trio, have all taken part.
Patrons at Augusta National flock to the first tee first thing in the morning on day one of the Masters to watch the legends of yesteryear entertain the crowd. It truly marks the beginning of the Masters and it is such an important day.
If we return to McIlroy, he will be looking to block out all the talk surrounding his pursuit of the major grand slam, like he has to do every year, and climb the leaderboard.
