Here it is – the worst tee shot ever hit at St Andrews

For us mere mortals the opening tee shot on the famous Old Course is one of the most intimidating. For this guy it was just too much

1st tee shot St Andrews Old Course

If you have ever been fortunate enough to play the St Andrews Old Course, you will have undoubtedly been a barrel of nerves on the 1st tee – which is odd, given the amount of green space in front of you to aim at.

I was no different when I played it back in 2013. “Just aim at the Swilcan Bridge,” my caddie told me. “Really? It’s so far left.” He was right, obviously. But connect with the ball and you really can’t miss.

So when PGA Tour pro Zac Blair tweeted to ask his followers for the most memorable golf shot they had ever seen, one of the replies really caught our attention.

Just watch and enjoy.

Everything about it is so perfect. The level of detail in his pre-shot routine, the bewildered look when he sees his hosel-rocket head off into the North Sea, then the two spectators watching on in deadpan fashion.

So thank you, @Cully999’s brother’s friend, wherever you may be. Because you have both entertained us and made us all feel so much more at ease.
