Sergio Garcia wants back in. He wants to play in the Ryder Cup again.
The Spaniard has rejoined the DP World Tour for the 2025 season having submitted his application before the November 17 deadline, as the tour itself informed NCG.
European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald revealed that he’d spoken with the Spaniard who missed the last edition in 2023 after he resigned his DP World Tour membership. Donald said there are rules to be followed, such as paying fines and serving suspensions for playing in LIV Golf events which players such as Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton have also had to address.
Before Garcia rejoined the European circuit, he enquired about coughing up his financial punishments in the 11th hour of the build-up to the 2023 Ryder Cup, which was redundant given he wasn’t a member anyway.
Donald’s comments represented another chapter in the Garcia-Ryder Cup saga which began with his exile to the LIV Golf League. But now that Garcia has rejoined the tour, who could say Donald won’t pick the tournament’s record points scorer on his team to face the United States at Bethpage in 2025?
His Ryder Cup record is outstanding (25-13-7). He earned more points than anyone in the event’s history when he beat Rickie Fowler in the Sunday singles at the 2018 Ryder Cup.
Garcia has had several incredible moments in his 10 appearances for Team Europe and we have narrowed them down to five memories since his debut in 1999.

Sergio Garcia Ryder Cup highlights: Winning his first-ever point at Brookline
Garcia was at least seven years younger than all of his Ryder Cup teammates when he made the European side that headed to Brookline in 1999. At 19 years old, his Ryder Cup career couldn’t have started any better.

He and Jesper Parnevik beat Tiger Woods and Tom Lehman in the Friday morning foursomes and this marked the start of a strong partnership for Europe in New York.
Garcia and Parnevik played in four pairs matches and took 3.5 points, but unfortunately, both players lost in the Sunday singles in what was a historically bad day for Team Europe. Team USA turned around a 10-6 deficit to take the trophy.
His monster putt at Oaklands Hills
10 matches into his Ryder Cup career, Garcia made his third consecutive appearance for Europe at Oakland Hills in 2004 where the team decimated America by 18.5 to 9.5 points.
Garcia earned 4.5 out of five matches and he hit one of the best putts in Ryder Cup history while playing in a pair with Lee Westwood against Chris DiMarco and Jay Haas in the Saturday fourballs. His putt was aimed about 15 foot right of the hole on the 18th green at the Michigan course before it rolled for what felt like 10 minutes and finally dropped for a half.
You can watch it in the clip below.

Another monster putt at Valhalla and an even better celebration
The 2008 Ryder Cup was nip-and-tuck for the first two days. Sergio Garcia and Paul Casey were drawn to play against Ben Curtis and Steve Stricker in the Saturday fourballs which they eventually halved.
But on the 8th green, Garcia provided a moment to remember when he holed a huge putt across the green at Valhalla and audibly screamed and fistpumped it home.
You can watch it here.
Beating Jim Furyk in the Medinah singles
It is hard to pinpoint which singles match was most important in Europe’s comeback at Medinah in 2012. Some fans would say Justin Rose‘s heroics against Phil Mickelson showed something could happen, but others would say Garcia’s gritty win over Jim Furyk was more important.

On the 16th green, Garcia almost holed a greenside bunker shot but Furyk subsequently lipped out a putt that looked in all the way which would’ve put the American 2 up with two to play.
Furyk’s hands slipped to his knees crestfallen when he missed a putt to halve the match on 18. Garcia had riggled out with a win, banking the last two holes, and took Europe within one point of retaining the trophy.
An amazing bunker shot at Gleneagles
Drawn in a tough fourball match with Rory McIlroy against Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley, Garcia had a tough bunker shot on the 4th hole at Gleneagles.
He managed to splash out and land it in the perfect spot for the ball to take the slope and run into the hole. Unfortunately, the American duo eventually came out on top 1 up.
The match with Phil Mickelson in 2016
Garcia didn’t win this match against Phil Mickelson at Hazeltine in 2016, but it’s possible he never played to a higher standard in any match of his Ryder Cup career. The pair made 19 birdies between them, had a combined 18-under-par with a better ball score of 58.
Mickelson shot a 63 and Garcia didn’t make a bogey. The Spaniard holed a 15-foot putt on the 18th hole for a half, capping an incredible match where neither player gave an inch.
““It was amazing. Obviously to shoot nine under and end up tying the match, it was heart breaking. I gave it everything I had but obviously Phil just made it from everywhere and played well,” he said.
“Probably not,” Mickelson said when asked if he’d ever seen a match like it. “At least that I’ve been involved in. This was a hard fought battle today and there was a lot of emotion.
“It was a good day, we made a lot of birdies! I thought that we both played really well and it was probably fitting in the end to have it a tie.”

Becoming the best Ryder Cup player ever
There was always a chance that Garcia could overtake Sir Nick Faldo as the Ryder Cup’s record points scorer at Le Golf National in 2018. 25 points was the mark everyone was watching when Garcia was named as one of Thomas Bjorn’s captains picks.
Garcia and Alex Noren destroyed Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau in the Friday foursomes and Garcia and Rory McIlroy beat Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau in the Saturday fourballs. He was getting closer, but he and Noren were beaten by Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson in the Saturday foursomes.
He had to wait until the singles where he was drawn against Rickie Fowler, who has a rather poor Ryder Cup record (two wins in 11 matches to that point). Garcia put him away 2&1 to reach the magic 25.5-point mark.
