Luke Clanton revealed the 2025 RBC Canadian Open would be his first PGA Tour appearance as a professional, in a rousing speech at TPC Toronto.
“I have some things written down. I didn’t want to forget anything. Today, my dream becomes a reality, a professional golfer on the PGA Tour,” Clanton said.
“Before I say anything about my future, I want to say something about my foundation. I’m a proud son of David and Rhonda Clanton. I’m a grateful brother of Ray and Abby Clanton. I’m a product of their love, their belief, and their sacrifices.
“They laid the groundwork for this moment and hopefully many other big and major moments in my life and career. Family is everything. So Mom, Dad, Ray, and Abby, thank you for everything.”
“To my coaches and mentors, thank you for your guidance, your honesty. You challenged me and encouraged me and trusted me when it mattered the most. To my FSU teammates, I’ve been lucky to share a locker room with you. We developed a bond that will last for a lifetime, and it will mean something special in my life for always. I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
Clanton, having earned PGA Tour membership via the PGA TOUR University Accelerated in February after making the cut at the Cognizant Classic, also notched four top-10 finishes on the tour in 2024. Even as an amateur, it was clear this was always the path.
He enters the professional game as the best amateur in the world with seven amateur wins, having attended Florida State University.
In 2025, he won the Watersound Invitational, the Seminole Intercollegiate, the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial and the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, so it is no wonder he was the best amateur in the world by the time he finally decided to turn professional. He also received the 2025 Ben Hogan Award – one of three player of the year trophies at college level.

He won the Seminole and Lewis Chitengwa events in 2024 within a string of three consecutive wins that also included the Valspar Collegiate. In November 2024, he almost won as an amateur on the PGA Tour, coming tied for second at the RSM Classic.
