  • Did you know?

Vijay Singh is one of Fiji’s greatest sporting superstars, winning three major championships in a career spanning four decades.

Born in Lautoka on the island of Fiji in February 1963, Singh started playing golf from a young age, but practiced by hitting coconuts as the family were unable to afford golf balls. He turned professional before his 20th birthday, and would secure his first victory just a couple of years later at the Malaysia PGA Championship.

Over the course of his long and storied career, the Fijian would go on to win three major titles. His first came at the PGA Championship in 1998, before then winning the Masters Tournament in 2000. In doing so, he became the first Asian golfer to wear the Green Jacket. Singh would then win the PGA Championship for a second time in 2004, after coming through a three-hole aggregate playoff against Chris DiMarco and Justin Leonard.

In total, Singh has won 66 times worldwide, with victories coming on nine different tours. He has been successful on the PGA Tour, European Tour (now DP World Tour), Asian Tour and the Southern Africa Tour (now Sunshine Tour), along with a handful of wins on the PGA Tour Champions after reaching the age of 50.
