Madelene Sagstrom is one of several Swedes in the Solheim Cup. She is an LPGA Tour winner and an Olympian for her country.

Sagstrom was born in Uppsala, Sweden in November 1992, and began playing golf at the age of 9. She remains a member of Enkoping Golf Club, the club she grew up at. Sagstrom had already won the Swedish Junior Stroke Play Championship and the French International Lady Junior Championship in her amateur career before going on to play at Louisiana State University, featuring for the LSU Lady Tigers. She won the SEC Player of the Year award in the 2015 season.

The Swede turned professional in 2015 and featured on the Ladies European Tour in her first outing. She then had a record-breaking year on the Symetra Tour a year later, winning three times to earn a ‘Battlefield Promotion’ to the LPGA Tour. She had to wait until the early part of 2020 for that first win, which came at the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio. Sagstrom has two top-five finishes at the AIG Women’s Open in the last five years.

Sagstrom made her Solheim Cup debut in 2017, and has made three appearances in the women’s team competition in total. The Swede won both of her singles matches in 2017 and 2021, her first two appearances, before being a captain’s pick for Suzann Pettersen for the 2023 edition in Andalucia.
