The Tour Championship is back for another year. Sure, there is more excitement and more golf for us to watch, but it marks the end of another season

The regular season ended with the Wyndham Championship, which was the last chance for players on the PGA Tour to earn their spots in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup rankings who have battled their way through the FedEx St. Jude Championship and the BMW Championship get to compete at East Lake in Atlanta, Georgia.

East Lake is a historic venue. It hosted the US Women’s Amateur in 1950, the Ryder Cup in 1963, and the US Men’s Amateur in 2001. It was established in 1904 and was the home course of Bobby Jones.

Using aerial images from 1949, architect Andrew Green led a complete restoration of the course which was first played on by the stars in 2024, when Scottie Scheffler won the Tour Championship.

This year, starting strokes have been removed. The once-staggered format, where players would begin the Tour Championship on scores determined by the quality of their seasons, has been scrapped.

It will be a 72-hole stroke play event, like 99% of events in the game, with all players starting at even par. The best performer will win the FedEx Cup.

Tour Championship 2025

Where is the Tour Championship?

The Tour Championship is being held at East Lake in Atlanta this year. It has been held here since 2004 and has also been held here in 1998, 2000 and 2002.

It has also been held at some of the best courses in the US, such as Oak Hills, Pebble Beach, Harbour Town, Pinehurst and Southern Hills.

Who won the Tour Championship 2024?

Scottie Scheffler won on the PGA Tour for the 729758203874th time at this event in 2024 (7th time, plus a gold medal), winning by three shots from Collin Morikawa. Ignoring starting strokes, it was actually Morikawa who had the lowest gross through 72 holes.

How to qualify for the Tour Championship

The criteria for this event are simple. Once the BMW Championship is over, which is the second event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the top 30 in the FedEx Cup rankings make it to Atlanta.

Is there a cut at the Tour Championship?

No, there isn’t.
