RBC Heritage: Everything you need to know

The Masters has only just finished, but the PGA Tour action continues with the RBC Heritage from Hilton Head Island!

Following from the Masters, the PGA Tour flies straight into another Signature Event – the RBC Heritage.

The RBC Heritage is one of the more well-known events on the PGA Tour, and it has been played every year since 1969.

Ever since its inception, the tournament has only had one venue – Harbor Town Golf Links – which has been the host of the event now for 65 years.

Matt Fitzpatrick (below) comes in as the defending champion, with Jordan Spieth, Stewart Cink, Webb Simpson and Branden Grace all winning the event in recent years.

Frequently Asked Questions about the RBC Heritage

When and where will the RBC Heritage take place?

The 2024 edition of the RBC Heritage will take place between April 18-21, and will be played (as always) at Harbor Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Who won last season’s RBC Heritage?

England’s Matt Fitzpatrick took the title at Harbor Town in 2023, defeating defending champion Jordan Spieth in a playoff. It was an emotional win for the Englishman, who revealed that Hilton Head Island was a regular holiday spot for him and his family throughout his childhood.

What is the history around the RBC Heritage?

The RBC Heritage is one of the older events on the PGA Tour, dating back to its inaugural edition in 1969, where Arnold Palmer was victorious.

Ever since its inception as a PGA Tour, Harbor Town Golf Links has played host to the tournament. The event has gone through several name changes due to sponsorship, but it has always been known as the Heritage Classic. RBC came on board as the title sponsor for the 2012 edition.

Davis Love III won this tournament five times throughout his career, with victories stretching from 1987 to 2003. He is one of several multiple-time winners of the competition.

Hale Irwin and Stewart Cink have both won at Harbor Town three times, while Johnny Miller, Hubert Green, Tom Watson, Fuzzy Zoeller, Payne Stewart, Boo Weekley and Jim Furyk have all been victorious on two occasions.

How do golfers qualify to play at Harbor Town?

With the event being one of the eight Signature Events on the 2024 PGA Tour schedule, there is a smaller field at Harbor Town this week. Only 70 players will take the course come Thursday morning.

There were several ways of getting into the field, with players in the following categories in the field:

  • Top 50 on the FedEx Cup Standings for 2023
  • Aon Next 10 (the ten highest ranked players on the 2024 FedEx Cup Standings, not already exempt)
  • Aon Swing 5 (the top five points earners from the four previous full-field events, that were not already exempt)
  • PGA Tour winners in 2024 (not including additional events)
  • Top 30 in the Official World Golf Rankings

What are the odds for the 2024 RBC Heritage?

Betting for the 2024 RBC Heritage is live via bet365.

Our tips for the week’s action are live! Check out who we think will be up there right here.

Is there a cut at the RBC Heritage?

With the RBC Heritage being a Signature Event on the PGA Tour, only 70 players enter the week.

Therefore, there is no cut after two days. Instead, all 70 players will across all four days of the competition.

Can LIV Golf players play at Harbor Town?

No, they cannot. With the RBC Heritage being an official PGA Tour event, we won’t be seeing any LIV Golf players teeing it up in Hilton Head Island.

How can I watch the RBC Heritage?

The event will be broadcast around the world by various broadcast partners. In the United Kingdom, action from all four days of the tournament will be shown live on Sky Sports – with the following schedule:

  • Thursday 18th – Sky Sports Golf from 12:15pm, Sky Sports Main Event from 12:30pm
  • Friday 19th – Sky Sports Golf from 12:15pm, Sky Sports Main Event from 12:30pm and 7pm
  • Saturday 20th – Sky Sports Golf from 3pm
  • Sunday 21st – Sky Sports Golf from 3pm

Comprehensive coverage, including live scoring, shot-by-shot data, and player highlights, will be available on the PGA Tour’s website and app.

How much will the winner take home from TPC San Antonio?

The winner of the tournament will pocket a cool $4 million – 20% of the $20 million prize pot.

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
