Jon Rahm pulls out of inaugural TGL Golf season

TGL announced the Spaniard’s “choice” to pull out of the new interactive league masterminded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy…

Jon Rahm will not play in the first TGL Golf season in 2024.

TGL announced the Masters champion’s “choice” to leave the roster on November 2, two months before the start date in January.

Speculation circulated about Rahm’s involvement with TGL, the league masterminded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as his name recently disappeared from the player list on the website.

NCG received this in a statement from the start-up league:

“Jon is one of the most talented players in the game and we will miss him during the inaugural TGL season.

“We understand that players have to balance a lot of different facets of their professional and personal lives and respect Jon’s choice and wish him well.

“TGL will name a new player to fill the 24-player roster soon.”

Rahm posted on X on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after the announcement was made that he would not be participating.

The 28-year-old was last seen coming tied for ninth at the acciona Open de Espana after helping Europe win the Ryder Cup in Rome last month.

Rahm and Justin Thomas were the first two names to be announced on the roster which now features just 23 players.

TGL Golf was first introduced to the world in August 2022 as a “new tech-infused golf league in partnership with the PGA Tour.”

Six teams of four will face off in a custom-built arena in Florida across a unique set of matches using a points system. It has all been explained in our comprehensive guide here.

So far, five teams have been established: Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Los Angeles Golf Club, TGL New York and TGL San Francisco.

January 9 is the first fixture in the TGL diary to be played at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens which houses approximately 1,600 people.

The course within the SoFi Center will be infused with various technologies and cover an area approximately 97 by 50 yards, roughly the size of a football field.

For tee shots and approach shots, players will hit from real grass tee boxes, fairway surfaces, rough, and sand into a 64 x 46 foot screen powered by Full Swing technology. The screen is roughly 20 times the size of a standard simulator.

For shots within 50 yards or less, depending on green setup and hole locations, the players will transition from Screenplay to Greenplay to a custom-built complex referred to as the “Green Zone”.

The “Green Zone” will be larger than four basketball courts and will feature the largest-ever adaptable putting surface built by Full Swing. The 3,800 square-foot tech-infused green includes three 15 x 27 foot Virtual Greens by Full Swing, each with 189 actuators and jacks that change the slope of the green creating a variety of play on every TGL hole.
