Former US Open champion to undergo brain surgery
Gary Woodland revealed on social media he will have surgery to remove a lesion on his brain
Gary Woodland delivered some personal news to golf fans on Wednesday afternoon.
The 2019 US Open winner revealed a lesion was found on his brain in recent months and he is set to undergo surgery on September 18 to remove it.
“After consulting with multiple specialists and discussing with my family,” he wrote, “we’ve made the decision that surgery to remove the lesion is the best course of action.
“I’m in good spirits with my family and team by my side and so thankful for the love and support of everyone.”

Woodland, a four-time winner on the PGA Tour, received a raft of support after announcing the news.
The American’s season halted just before the FedEx Cup Playoffs after a tied-for-27th finish at the Wyndham Championship.
He recorded top 10s at the Genesis Invitational and the Cadence Bank Houston Open, while also finishing in a tie for 14th at the Masters in April.
The crowning moment of Woodland’s career so far came four years ago when he toppled Brooks Koepka and Justin Rose on his way to US Open glory at Pebble Beach.
This is Woodland’s most recent win on tour. He won the Waste Management Phoenix Open in 2018 prior to that, while also recording success at the 2011 Transitions Championship and 2013 Reno-Tahoe Open.
