Nike’s new balls bring tour-level performance to club players

FIRST LOOK: Nike One Rzn balls

“Rubber was and resin is” goes the Nike mantra – referring to the new polymer they are using for the ball’s core.

The theory goes that this core is faster and lighter, therefore allowing it also to be bigger. That gives the following benefits:

• More distance off the tee

• A straighter ball flight thanks to the increased MOI

• Increased control around the greens

Nike used the RZN core for the first time in the tour 20Xi ball two years ago. Now they have used the same technology to create a ball designed with the amateur player in mind.

It features the same larger, softer RZN core found in the new Nike 20XI tour ball, but with a slightly different formulation, designed for increased distance when it counts.

This larger, softer RZN core improves feel off all shots while maintaining driver distance.

The added RZN mantel produces longer shots with the irons while providing a softer short game feel. This combination of core size and mantle translates into two times more RZN for ultimate performance.

“There’s not a product out there in this category of golf ball that has technology of this magnitude,” said Rock Ishii, Nike Golf’s product development director for golf balls.

The ball is available in two versions, One Rzn and One Rzn X. The latter is a little firmer. Designed to hit longer and more penetrating shots, it is intended for a player with a faster head speed or steeper angle of attack.
