‘I’m turning the page but life goes on’: Former Ryder Cup star retires

At the age of 33, Victor Dubuisson has called time on his career having won twice on the DP World Tour…

Victor Dubuisson has announced his retirement from golf.

The 33-year-old revealed his decision to L’Equipe after withdrawing from the LIV Golf Promotions event.

The Frenchman hadn’t won on the DP World Tour since 2015 and only made eight starts in 2023, withdrawing after the first round of three of them.

“I’ve been thinking for a few years about the fact that I’ve given up on my life as a professional golfer for some time,” he said.

“I was finding it more and more difficult to cope with life on tour. I’m turning the page but life goes on.

“It’s life, for me it’s not an end.

“I started from nothing, so I’m extremely satisfied with what I’ve done. I still see myself as a little kid with my little bag and my Decathlon clubs.

“I was not predestined to have this career at all.

“Many people will say that I could have done more and that I could have been World No.1,” he added.

“But I’m more than happy with it. I don’t live in regret all the time. When I look behind me, where I started and where I am, I can tell you that I am very happy.”

Dubuisson turned professional in 2010 after becoming the World No.1 amateur. He reached the 2014 WGC Match Play final, heroically losing to Jason Day.

Despite being beaten by the Australian, Dubuisson performed two spectacular escape shots during the match which live long in the memories of golf fans.

He won twice on the DP World Tour and made the European Ryder Cup team in 2014 too, playing a crucial part for captain Paul McGinley in Europe’s victory at Gleneagles.

Dubuisson and Graeme McDowell formed a formidable partnership in both foursomes sessions, taking down Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley and Jimmy Walker and Rickie Fowler in convincing fashion.
